The (11.1%) point traffic reduction recorded for May represents a sharp about turn from the much more hopeful (1.6%) which emerged from the April numbers. May is not as bad as either February or March but it is broadly in line with the (12%) point reductions which were evident around the turn of the year.
The UK is an important feeder for Spanish International traffic and would normally contribute about 30% of the total international passenger flow. In May passenger numbers from the UK were down by (13.1%) which serves to underline the important point that the UK is really no worse than other Spanish origin and destination countries.
Based on these levels of actuals, there is no immediate prospect of demand forecasts rising at all. It may be that the peak summer months will see some improvement; the Easter rush, after all, was a strong one.

The thirteenth month is included to emphasize the fragility of simple year on year changes. In May of last year, international passenger growth in Spain was already beginning to slow. By June of last year it was clear that the boom months were over. So what level of pax change in June of this year could reasonably be interpreted as an upturn?
